Salama Tsilo!

October 13, 2022 by Lemur Conservation Foundation

It’s a beautiful, rambunctious boy! Aviavy’s infant, born on May 21, 2022, has been growing like a weed. Now approaching six months old, this youngster is almost the size of his mom!

After going through many possibilities to continue our Malagasy theme for red ruffed lemur names, the staff finally made a decision- Tsilo! Tsilo (see-loo), meaning ‘thorn’, not only continues our overall name theme, it also fits in with the botanical theme of his parents Aviavy, meaning figs, and Házo, meaning tree.

Tsilo spends his days alongside his parents as they move about their enclosure, check out new enrichment, and devour their daily diet and tasty browse. Tsilo is curious yet wary, and will readily run back to his parents if startled by a new object.
