Join us in welcoming 3-month interns Abigail Burke, Carolyn Degurski, and Elizabeth Miller. All of these new additions bring great experience to LCF’s animal husbandry program. Below, read about their accomplishments and why they were attracted to LCF’s internship opportunities.
Abigail ‘Abby’ Burke joins us from Harwich, MA and is a graduate of Salve Regina University where she double majored in Environmental Studies and Cultural and Historic Preservation. Abby’s experience includes two shorebird internships with the Cape Cod National Seashore, a sea turtle internship with the Cape Lookout National Seashore, and most recently a fisheries internship at Yellowstone National Park. Abby has always been interested in animal conservation and is excited to try her hand at animal husbandry.
Carolyn Degurski is from West Chester, PA and a graduate of Penn State University where she received a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Prior to her arrival at LCF, Carolyn was an education intern with the Lehigh Valley Zoo, a Wildlife Biologist Aide with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, a Bat Survey Technician with Sanders Environmental Inc. and a Bog Turtle Technician with New Jersey Audubon. Carolyn’s love of lemurs drew her to LCF where she is excited to experience a new aspect of wildlife conservation in a new area of the country.
Elizabeth Miller hails from Reading, MA and graduated from the University of Findlay with a B.S. in Animal Science. Elizabeth’s experience includes interning at the Duke Lemur Center where she helped prepare diets, create enrichment, clean enclosures, and observed medical procedures on the 10+ lemur species that call the DLC home. Elizabeth fell in love with lemurs while at the Duke Lemur Center and is now pursuing a career working with primates.
