Each Ako lesson aligns with a suggested grade level (Kindergarten-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th) and one or more of seven environmental themes. Before carrying out an activity, we recommend reading the corresponding section in the Ako Educator’s Guide that matches the theme of the lesson. The seven themes are:
- Looking at Lemurs—Classification and Biodiversity
- Exploring Lemur Habitats
- Investigating Lemur Adaptations
- Discovering Lemur Communities—Ecology and Inter-dependence
- Learning About Lemur Life—Life Cycles and Behavior
- Madagascar’s People and Places
- Making a Difference for Lemurs
The Ako lessons can be completed chronologically or independently. Each activity incorporates multiple learning styles and subject areas. Extensions provide additional learning opportunities to use in your classroom, your schoolyard, or at your local zoo.
