Future Plans

Anne & Walter Bladstrom Library Projects:

- Creating a new library website

- Scanning and digitizing the library's rare books, research papers, field notes and developing a searchable database

- Setting up an online catalog

- Applying for IMLS Digitization Grant for cooperative project with the American Museum of Natural History to create a "Lemur Literature Database"

Sarasota Teachers' Institute for Conservation Biology:

A two-week summer workshop, given for academic credit and conducted at LCF’s Mianatra Center for Lemur Studies, during which teachers: attend five lectures by leading scientists and educators who are experts in the art of communicating scientific principles, participate in a hands-on field training program where they learn fieldwork techniques, and use what they learn to create a module on conservation biology for the high school science curriculum. Following their work in the Institute, teachers use concepts and methodology learned about lemur biology and conservation as a way of motivating students to develop interest in the scientific process, field work, conservation biology and careers in science.

New Lemurs Arriving Soon:

Four additional Sanford's lemurs will be coming from the Duke University Primate Center this Spring. They will join the group of four who arrived in late November and are settling in at the Myakka City Reserve.
