LCF is very proud to report that in March 2011 the Myakka City Lemur
Reserve again received certification
from the as a Related Facility.
Originally certified in 1996, MCLR continues to maintain the highest
standards for the lemur colony.
The
certification process includes a rigorous inspection of the
facility's operation in areas such as collection care (including
living environment and daily enrichment,) keeper training, safety for
animals, staff and visitors education programs, conservation efforts,
veterinary programs and financial stability.
Certification
provides assurance of the professional and ethical values of LCF to
outside organizations, allowing other institutions to cooperate with
the reserve with confidence. Partnership with the AZA also provides
the Reserve with additional grant opportunities and greater access to
lemurs via animal loans and donations. The Lemur Conservation
Foundation's education and conservation mission will be further
promoted through the AZA's dynamic network of dedicated institutions,
experienced experts, and passionate professionals. Together we all
work towards ensuring a future full of lemurs.
